The trade deadline is approaching, and teams are beginning to choose whether to buy or sell.
While there are plenty of talented players expected to be moved, Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal is the name every fan is keeping a close eye on. The reigning back-to-back Cy Young Award winner is about to be a free agent, and the Tigers are fading in the postseason race.
"Yeah, Tarik Skubal's going to be traded," MLB insider Jeff Passan said on Wednesday. "The Tigers haven't gone to teams that are interested in him, and said as much at this point, but the expectation is that is going to happen in the next day or two."
Skubal delivered a quality start for the Tigers on Wednesday. His team went on to blow a seven-run lead to drop to four games out of a wild card spot. He exited to a standing ovation, and the Tigers designated his personal catcher for assignment on Tuesday. All signs are pointing to Skubal making his next start on a new team.

If the Tigers start shopping him, it's unclear what they will want in return. They could try to thread the needle and add a big-league pitcher to try and stay in the race this year. They could also look for a prospect haul and then start trading off other players as well, essentially declaring this season a lost cause.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves all make sense as contenders who could make a strong push for Skubal.
