Another night, another dramatic Crosstown finish at Wrigley Field.
After center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong won the Cubs the series-opener with a walk-off homer in extra innings Monday, third baseman Alex Bregman delivered a two-out, walk-off single to give the Cubs a 4-3 win over the White Sox, the 13th walk-off win at the Friendly Confines this season.
Sox skipper Will Venable made the decision he didn't make Monday, intentionally walking Crow-Armstrong with a runner on second and one out, but two batters later, the Cubs' big free-agent signing came through with the game-winning hit.
The Cubs started the scoring hours earlier, in the first inning, homering twice in the opening frame for the second straight night. Crow-Armstrong and first baseman Michael Busch did the damage Tuesday after Crow-Armstrong and right fielder Seiya Suzuki went back-to-back the night before.
The Sox struck back with three runs against Cubs starter Kevin Gausman, putting together three straight singles in the second inning, getting a crushed Munetaka Murakami homer in the third and scoring on a couple doubles in the fourth.
Gausman, who made his third start since the Cubs added him in a deadline deal, left two batters into the fifth inning with a cramp in his left hand.
Though righty Erick Fedde kept the North Side bats quiet during his 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, the Cubs tied the game late, with Bregman delivering a two-out RBI knock to square the score at 3 in the seventh inning.
The rain came not long after, and paused action for an hour and a half, which Cubs and Sox fans alike took as an opportunity to gather behind home plate, mostly shirtless, for some “Tarps Off” fun, twirling their shirts and singing along to “Seven Nation Army,” “Dancing Queen” and “Bear Down, Chicago Bears,” among other tunes.
An ever-growing Tarps Off crowd is currently chanting “GREEN BAY SUCKS” while it pours rain and “Dancing Queen” blares over the Wrigley Field speakers. Crosstown is something, folks. pic.twitter.com/FWF3QToBM2

But that unity only lasted as long as it took for the Cubs to emerge victorious and send only one side of town to bed happy.
