See the full story · 1 sourcesThe Jacksonville Jaguars have completed their first block of training camp practices, finishing three of their 20 preseason workout sessions.
We got a chance to see the team as they reacclimate to football, setting themselves up for the preseason and beyond. Head coach Liam Coen and company are preparing for their first place schedule after securing the AFC South title last season.
He's been adamant that the team has adopted a mindset to play anybody, anywhere. That starts in camp as they have three joint practices with teams in the NFC South.
O'Halloran: At age 26, Trevor Lawrence entering wheelhouse of his NFL prime
"Everything we're doing is trying to attack an edge," Coen told reporters after the first practice of training camp. "Last year was about finding an edge and creating an edge. And now we are attacking these edges with a relentless pursuit."
With that thinking in mind, here are a few observations from the first three practices of training camp.
Trevor Lawrence gets off to slow start to begin training camp
After having a strong offseason program, it's fair to say that Trevor Lawrence has started a bit slow in training camp. Lawrence has thrown three interceptions in three days, even though one of those got waved off by the officials for defensive pass interference.
It's important to note that Lawrence will admittedly test himself during the low stakes and pressure of practice to see if he can make certain throws. He explores with throws he typically wouldn't make in a real game. It's a way to gauge what he can do against certain looks or coverages.
It's also worth saying a lot of this is typical rust as the team reacclimates to camp. They haven't been in full team scenarios in more than a month, so it'll take time to look as clean as they did during the offseason. But it is worth watching as the weeks continue to see if Lawrence can return to the form he found earlier in the offseason.
Parker Washington looks like the best receiver on the roster
What is it about contract years that makes players tap into the best versions of themselves? Parker Washington has recorded several impressive catches through the first few days of camp and is fully taking to his first preseason with a set role.
On the heels of his best season as a professional, it was expected that Washington would receive a contract extension that'd tie him to the franchise long-term. But as of Friday afternoon, no such deal has been inked.
Mr. "Chop Wood, Carry Water" hasn't taken offense to the lack of a new deal, though. Instead of being a malcontent or attempting to holdout, he's come out focused as ever and ready to capitalize on every opportunity in front of him.
"I'm just going to take it one rep at a time," he told reporters after the first day of training camp. "Bad rep, good rep. Just gonna come back the next play and just go at it again."

Josh Cameron, CJ Williams make dazzling plays to open training camp
Speaking of pass catchers who've started training camp on a mission, the two rookie draftees have already made an impact through the first block of practices.
CJ Williams has, seemingly, made a catch in competitive periods every day since he was drafted. He built momentum in the offseason and started camp with the play of the day on a sliding reception deep in the secondary.
Not to be outdone, Josh Cameron had a standout practice on Day 2 of camp. He made multiple impressive grabs during the competitive periods, including one reception along the sideline with Travis Hunter glued to him.
Receiver is an absolutely loaded position, but the rookies are proving their worth in the early days of camp.
Jaguars ' defense makes impact early and often in training camp
The defense is typically ahead of the offense in the early days of camp and this season hasn't been different. Josh Hines-Allen has looked like he's on a mission, essentially looking unblockable against Jacksonville's reserves.
The team hasn't gone through any live periods yet, but he's consistently been in the backfield for would-be sacks. With Hines-Allen setting the tone up front, the rest of the defense has followed suit and matched the intensity.
Eric Murray intercepted Lawrence on the first 7-on-7 play of camp, breaking up the Brian Thomas Jr. and Lawrence connection before it could even get started. Ventrell Miller had an interception on Day 2 of camp while Jarrian Jones and Jourdan Lewis both made pass breakups.

— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) July 31, 2026 Jones was the standout player of Day 3, swatting and snagging every pass that came in his direction. He jumped a Lawrence pass to Washington on the goal line to come away with his first pick of camp.
It's a good sign for the defense as they settle into the second season under defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile.
Chris Rodriguez, Cole Van Lanen and other injury observations
Chris Rodriguez is working his way back from his offseason foot injury. He’s been present, but the team is still holding him out of team work.
Cole Van Lanen has been ramping up work despite being on the Physically Unable to Participate list. It’ll be interesting to see when the team feels comfortable with him returning to individual work and eventually more.
Jack Kiser avoided a major injury to his right knee. He’s expected to return to practice at some point before camp is over.
Travis Hunter and Jourdan Lewis both look fully healthy after missing the full offseason program. Lewis, specifically, looks explosive and like he’s ready to reclaim his starting spot. Coen noted that Hunter looked good on the opening day of camp as he attempted to catch a pass without any he...
