Dodgers Could Trade Two Depth Pieces Before MLB Deadline, Per Insider

Closer Edwin Diaz and Kike Hernandez are set to return this week after spending months on the IL. Starting pitchers Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow are also expected to return from the IL sometime in August.
The return of these players could influence how the Dodgers tackle the upcoming MLB trade deadline on Aug. 3. The Athletic's Katie Woo reported that left-handed starting pitcher Eric Lauer and outfielder Alex Call may be up for trade.
"With several players nearing returns from the IL, Los Angeles could move some of its major-league depth pieces to take advantage of the market," Woo wrote. "... Left-hander Eric Lauer and outfielder Alex Call are two names the Dodgers could shop, according to multiple league sources familiar with the team’s thinking, who were granted anonymity in exchange for their candor."
After Snell and Glasnow landed on the IL with injuries in the same week, the Dodgers acquired Lauer from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash on May 16. He has posted a 3.35 ERA and 26 strikeouts across 45.2 innings in seven starts and eight total appearances.
He may be a good depth piece for the Dodgers to keep in case there are any other injuries. But October is getting closer and closer, and the Dodgers are determined to win a third straight World Series title.
It will be difficult for Lauer to make the postseason roster given how many superstar pitchers Los Angeles is expecting to have back by the postseason. Additionally, Lauer will be a free agent at the end of this season.
Hernandez is set to be reactivated on Tuesday, and Teoscar Hernandez and Tommy Edman are also healthy. The Dodgers also have an established outfield trio with Teoscar Hernandez, Andy Pages and Kyle Tucker.
The Dodgers traded right-handers Sean Paul Linan and Eriq Swan to the Washington Nationals for Call at last year's deadline. This season, Los Angeles could look to trade Call to acquire some more minor league talent at the deadline.
