Preseason games might not "count," but the hits players take can still take a toll.
New York Giants second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart learned that the hard way in his team's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings on Aug. 15. Next week, he'll hope for more protection against a squad that tallied three sacks against their opponent in Week 1 of the preseason: the Miami Dolphins .
Dolphins linebackers Cameron Goode and David Ojabo combined with defensive ends Max Llewellyn and Mason Reiger for three takedowns of Washington quarterbacks on Aug. 14. One day later, in MetLife Stadium, Dart took a massive hit on a sack by Vikings safety Jay Ward that sent him to the medical tent for a concussion check.
It is unknown at the time of writing whether Miami or New York will continue playing some of their starters – Dolphins QB1 Malik Willis also started in Week 1 – but both teams will seek to avoid any more big hits or injuries with the start of the regular season on the horizon.
