This news comes after the Patriots finally came to a contract agreement with Jacas, who missed all of the team's spring practices. Patriots coach Mike Vrabel indicated that the team would be cautious with Jacas considering the time missed and the fact that he is working his way back from multiple injuries.
Going on the NFI list means that Jacas is not ready to practice at this time, but that status can change at any moment. The Patriots probably hope it's sooner rather than later given their questionable depth at edge rusher. Harold Landry is currently on the PUP list, leaving the unit down to Dre'Mont Jones, Bradyn Swinson, Elijah Ponder and Jesse Luketa.
Follow-up: After officially signing second-round pick Gabe Jacas, the Patriots placed him on the active/non-football injury list. Head coach Mike Vrabel said the team would take a cautious approach. This reflects that Jacas is not yet ready to practice. Can change any day.
