Real Madrid trailing Liverpool in race to sign midfielder
After missing out on Enzo Fernandez and Rodri, Real Madrid are still seeking to sign a new midfielder this summer. Jose Mourinho is the one pushing for another option to be brought in, and the club could be prepared to move for one of their long-standing targets.
Despite their failed efforts with Fernandez and Rodri, Real Madrid still see the Premier League as one that is worth exploring. Having signed Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella earlier this summer, they could be set to move for Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton.
Real Madrid are reportedly considering whether to make a late move for Wharton , but if they wait too long, they could miss out on another target. As per Sport , Liverpool have made contact with the 22-year-old to gauge whether he would be open to joining this summer, and thus, they have moved into pole position to secure his signature.
Do Real Madrid need a new midfielder?
Real Madrid have a number of options to play in midfield, but not enough of them are to Mourinho’s liking. Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde are in line to be starters, while Silva is seen as an option to be used in a deeper role following his move from Manchester City earlier in the summer. Arda Guler can also operate there if necessary, but Eduardo Camavinga is someone that is not counted on, hence why a new signing could still be made.
It will be interesting to see whether Real Madrid step up plans to sign a new midfielder before the summer transfer window closes. There is money available to spend if the right option comes around, although there is every chance that the decision is made for no one to be sought, meaning that Mourinho must work with what he’s got.
