Who is returning, leaving Oregon baseball after the MLB draft?
After a whirlwind start to the offseason, the Oregon Ducks now have a better idea of who will be filling out the diamond in 2027 when baseball season begins. Unfortunately, it will be a lot of new faces brought in through the transfer portal, as well as a healthy dose of freshmen in important roles.
The Ducks saw seven players drafted into MLB earlier this month, and with the deadline to sign or return to school passing on July 27, each of the Ducks with remaining eligibility made decisions, and ones that won't help next year's roster.
Among the seven drafted players, five of them had a decision to make, as well as three commits and one transfer. Oregon had hoped to retain a few of them, but only one will make his way to Eugene next season. Here is who is leaving the Ducks this offseason.

OF Andruw Giles (Oregon commit, signed with Pittsburgh Pirates)
RHP Cal Scolari (signed with Chicago White Sox)
SS Maddox Molony (signed with Detroit Tigers)
RHP Miles Gosztola (signed with Los Angeles Dodgers)
C Jacob Madrid (Oregon commit, signed with New York Mets)
RHP Sebastian Rolon (Oregon commit, signed with Cleveland Guardians)
OF Jack Brooks (signed with Washington Nationals)
While veterans Cooney, Scolari and Molony were all expected to depart as high selections, there was some optimism the Ducks could bring back Gosztola as the deadline neared. Instead, he will start his pro career, as will Brooks, who was a late selection.
Oregon's freshman class for the upcoming season is still very strong, highlighted by outfielder Isaiah Hearn, who was not selected in the draft. However, Giles was a gem in the class out of Nevada, and a sixth-round selection was too much for the Oregon commit to pass up. There was hope that the Ducks could bring Rolon or Madrid to campus as later selections, especially after the addition of assistant coach Ryan Fineman , but they also opted to sign with their respective franchises.
The only player the Ducks were able to pull out of the draft and bring to campus is still a new face. Left-handed pitcher Chase Frey , a Grand Canyon transfer, was selected in the 15th round by the Boston Red Sox, but he quickly reaffirmed his commitment to the Ducks and will be a key part of the rotation next season in Eugene.
Oregon will need to replace multiple spots in the rotation this season with Scolari and Gosztola leaving the program, as well as Collin Clarke , who transferred to TCU. The Ducks haven't brought in many transfers, but the pitching staff has stayed mostly intact this offseason. Frey, an All-Mountain West second-team selection last season, should plug into the rotation behind Will Sanford .
As for the rest of the roster, there is still time to make a couple of additions through the transfer portal if Mark Wasikowski sees the right fit. Despite being ravaged by the transfer portal , the Ducks have quietly rebuilt a strong foundation to be competitive again next season.
