FOX23 Tulsa's Ron Terrell Believes Oklahoma State Football WILL Win 10+ Games
FOX23 Tulsa morning news anchor Ron Terrell joined OkState Roundtable publisher Tyler Jones on The Jones Report podcast this week.
Since 2006, viewers have woken up to Terrell’s face on FOX23’s hit morning show, but prior to that he covered sports in both the Tulsa and Oklahoma City markets.
On this week’s show, Terrell recalled some of his favorite memories of covering the Sooners , Cowboys , and Thunder over the years. He also showed off his impressive array of impressions from the coaches he’s been around of the years such as Bob Stoops , Pat Jones, Mike Gundy, and Kelvin Sampson.
FOX23 Tulsa Morning Anchor Ron Terrell 7-24-26 The Jones Report · Episode Although he graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1994, Terrell grew up outside of Detroit, in Andover, Michigan. As you could imagine, this year’s matchup between the Sooners and Wolverines is a big day for Terrell, and he’s taking his family up to the Big House for the game.
Terrell has high hopes for Brent Venables and the Sooners this season. Oklahoma is coming off of a 10-win season, along with a birth in the College Football Playoff. He was quick to point to the strength of the defense, as the Sooners return some key pieces such as David Stone , Taylor Wein , Owen Heinecke , Kip Lewis , among others.
Terrell believes the defense will be the best in the nation saying, “The trend is definitely in the right direction, especially defensively. You look at this team and the players they are bringing back. Many have them projected as the top defense in the country, and I would tend to agree with that.
In the interview with Jones, Terrell pointed to the offense needing to hold up their end of the bargain and make life easier on the defense saying, “The offense showed flashes (in 2025). They need a little bit more of a running game I think this season. We’ll see if (John) Mateer can take another step in his next season at OU.”
Jones and Terrell also discussed the Oklahoma State Cowboys , and their transition from the Mike Gundy era in Stillwater.
Terrell is very high on new head coach Eric Morris coming over from North Texas, along with his newcomers like Drew Mestemaker .
He was bullish on how he thinks the Cowboys will do in Morris’ first season in Stillwater saying, “It’s a matter of finding that mix of guys who fit his program and we’ll see. Obviously a lot of them do already, fit his program, cause he’s already coached them. So I expect big things out of them. I think they’re at least a 10-win season with the talent that they have.”
