When Quinyon Mitchell fell to No. 22 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, many viewed it as a potential steal for the Philadelphia Eagles . Mitchell had been considered a top-10 talent and one of the best cornerbacks in the draft class coming out of Toledo. Two years later, he looks like one of the best shutdown corners in football.
After helping the Eagles win a Super Bowl in his rookie season — earning PFWA All-Rookie honors and finishing second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting — Mitchell followed it up with an even better season last year, totaling 45 combined tackles, 17 pass breakups, and a fumble recovery across 17 games. Despite not recording an interception, he earned his first Pro Bowl nod and first-team All-Pro honors, allowing just a 58.4 passer rating when targeted by opposing quarterbacks.
With the Eagles' first preseason game approaching, Mitchell has already caught the eye of his newest teammate in the secondary, former Pro Bowl cornerback Riq Woolen.
"Just his patience, his confidence," Woolen said of what stands out about Mitchell. "He's been in this defense ... so he has a good understanding of how he can play certain techniques and certain coverages. Being able to watch him make plays, it inspires me to make plays."

A fifth-round pick in 2022, Woolen has emerged as one of the better corners in the league over the past few years. He earned Pro Bowl honors as a rookie in 2022 after co-leading the NFL with six interceptions. Across four seasons in Seattle, he totaled 203 combined tackles, 53 pass breakups, 12 interceptions, and five fumble recoveries, and helped the Seahawks win the Super Bowl last season.
After the two sides were unable to reach a contract extension, Woolen signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Eagles in March.
Now, he and Mitchell form one of the best cornerback tandems in the league — and with Woolen there to help take some of the pressure off, Mitchell could be poised for his best season yet.
