It's the lowest preseason projection for the Seminoles in conference history. Despite the low overall ranking, FSU managed three first-place votes, the fifth most in the conference.
With a 7-17 record and no road wins over the last two seasons, the Seminoles' prediction is in line with the recent production from the program. Miami was the runaway pick to win the conference with 165 first-place votes, with SMU and Louisville rounding out the top three.
The Seminoles are entering year seven under Mike Norvell, and start preseason camp on July 29. It's a pivotal season for the program, which owes Norvell over $50 million if it chooses to move on from him. Norvell is back in the play-calling seat with Ashton Daniels under center and the return of Duce Robinson at wide receiver, leaving his future in his hands.
FSU opens the season on Aug. 29 against New Mexico State at Doak Campbell Stadium in week 0.
