The German Football Association (DFB) has set its sights on hosting the 2042 men’s World Cup, although it is not ruling out bringing forward its ambitions to the 2038 edition if FIFA changes its current regulations.
The obstacle of the rotation system
According to the current rules, a confederation must wait two editions before hosting the tournament again. With the 2030 event shared by Europe, Africa, and South America, and the 2034 edition awarded to Saudi Arabia, only CONCACAF and OFC countries would be eligible for 2038. For that reason, the DFB is hopeful that FIFA will show flexibility.
