Barcola to Liverpool now in ‘final stages’ as Fabrizio Romano issues Thursday morning update
Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola is almost over, judging by an update from Fabrizio Romano on Thursday morning.
The Paris Saint-Germain attacker has been the Reds’ primary target throughout the summer transfer window and is understood to have already agreed personal terms over a prospective switch to Anfield.
There’s been a growing sense over the past 48 hours that the move will eventually happen, with David Ornstein citing an ‘85%-90%’ chance of it coming to fruition and Ben Jacobs indicating that a deal could be completed before the weekend .
Romano: Barcola move to Liverpool now in its ‘final stages’
At 7am on Thursday morning, Romano took to X with an update which also hints at the transfer being on the cusp of completion.
He posted: ‘Liverpool are now at the final stages of Bradley Barcola deal with PSG. The negotiations moved to the highest officials at both clubs and breakthrough now seen as imminent.’
This follows on from a report from The Times ‘ Paul Joyce on Wednesday evening that the Parisian giants have now dropped their asking price to £115m, which is significantly lower than the initial €170m (£145.7m) that Jacobs mentioned on talkSPORT .

Barcola confirmation should arrive in the next few days
It’s taken a good while, but it finally feels as though Liverpool will get Barcola over the line before next Tuesday’s deadline, and quite possibly for a much lower price than originally estimated.
The Reds’ case has been helped by the player’s eagerness to come to Anfield and PSG freezing him out by not selecting him for any of their first three matches of this season.
Even at a reduced fee, the 23-year-old is still set to be our second most expensive signing of all time behind Alexander Isak, but such is the marketplace in 2026 that it was always going to take upwards of £100m to get a deal done.
Barcola is primarily a left winger, thus fuelling speculation over a potential exit for Cody Gakpo, although his ability to play anywhere across the attack could see him utilised as the right-sided successor to Mo Salah that we’ve been craving for several months.
With multiple trusted journalists now indicating that it’s simply a matter of when and not if, we should hopefully see full confirmation from the two clubs before the conclusion of the weekend.
