Quarterback Trace Hawkins announced that he committed to the Tigers on July 30. He is a four-star recruit from Calhoun, Georgia. He picked Clemson over LSU, Duke, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Virginia Tech.
Hawkins is the No. 20 quarterback prospect and No. 35 player out of Georgia, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He is also ranked No. 293 overall in his class.
"Really just the first time I stepped on campus in Death Valley, I knew that was the place I wanted to be," Hawkins said of his commitment.
Hawkins is listed at 6-0 and 180 pounds. Last season at Calhoun High School, he completed 47.3% of passes, throwing for 2,442 yards with 24 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns.
Clemson has already started working on its 2028 class after gaining commitments from 25 players in the 2027 class . The Tigers' 2027 haul ranks No. 14 in the country and No. 2 in the ACC. The class is highlighted by wide receiver Jamarin Simmons, who is a top-100 player, and includes 14 other four-star recruits.
Clemson enters the 2026 season with a battle at quarterback between redshirt junior Christopher Vizzina and freshman Tait Reynolds. Vizzina appears to be the frontrunner for the starting job with the Tigers set to begin practicing on Aug. 6.
Vizzina has spent three seasons as a backup and has just one start in his career.
