Washington general manager Adam Peters finalized the Commanders ’ initial 53-man roster on Sunday for the 2026 season. Peters kept seven wide receivers, 10 offensive linemen and three cornerbacks. However, some of Washington’s moves were procedural, as it will bring back a couple of released players this week once it moves injured players to IR. So, that 53-man roster you see on Sunday could look much different in 24 hours.
Speaking of looking different, the Commanders could also claim players waived by the 31 other teams. Two positions of most interest to Washington are offensive line — specifically at center — and cornerback.
Here are five players who could interest the Commanders.
C Kingsley Eguakun
The 6-foot-3, 305-pound Eguakun is 25 years old and has ties to Commanders offensive line coach Darnell Stapleton. Stapleton was Eguakun’s offensive line coach at the University of Florida for two seasons. After entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2024, Eguakun spent most of his first two seasons with the Lions . He started a couple of games, and then the Browns signed him off Detroit’s practice squad. Lions coach Dan Campbell seemed upset about losing Eguakun. The Browns waived him on Sunday.
G Evan Neal
A former top-10 pick of the Giants , Neal didn’t make it at tackle. He moved to guard and appeared to be adjusting to the change. However, new coach John Harbaugh was ready to move on from Neal. The 6-foot-7, 340-pound Neal is still only 25. Does Washington feel like it could develop Neal, while he could also offer depth behind Chris Paul and Sam Cosmi? Remember, the Commanders have concerns about Paul, too. It’s a low-risk proposition right now.
OT Kiran Amegadjie
Currently, the Commanders have veterans Andrew Wylie and D.J. Humphries as reserve offensive tackles. You’d feel comfortable with Wylie at right tackle or at guard, not at left tackle. The Commanders would be in trouble if Humphries has to play. Should they be looking for a tackle, too? The Bears waived Amegadjie, a 24-year-old former third-round pick. Chicago tried to trade him, but teams opted to wait and see if he was waived. Amegadjie is the type of young offensive tackle worth developing. While that generally makes more sense on the practice squad, the Commanders would probably need to claim him. While Washington is looking for playable, experienced offensive line depth, sometimes you take shots on young, talented players with the hopes that your coaching staff can help them reach their potential.
G Robert Jones
A former undrafted free agent, the 6-foot-4, 322-pound Jones spent four seasons with the Dolphins, appearing in 49 games and making 30 starts. He signed with the Cowboys in 2025, but a broken bone in his neck kept him out all season. In 2026, he signed with the 49ers and was competing for the left guard job. Unfortunately for Jones, he was dealing with a calf injury and was released on Sunday. He could bring experience to Washington’s offensive line in a reserve role, offering insurance for Paul. Injuries are a concern, though.
CB Cobee Bryant
The Falcons surprisingly waived the 6-foot-0, 180-pound cornerback. A 2025 UDFA, Bryant played in seven games as a rookie, making one start. Bryant’s traits seem to fit what defensive coordinator Daronte Jones likes to do. He’s excellent in zone coverage. Bryant would give the Commanders a capable young cornerback worth developing in Jones’ scheme. Bryant is perhaps the most intriguing player on this list.
