LIV Golf’s season finale has been canceled in the latest disaster for the league.
This season has been one blow after another for the breakaway golf league. It started with Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed leaving; the Saudi Public Investment Fund withdrew support, the Asian Tour cut ties, and now their Team Championship Finale is canceled.
CEO Scott O’Neil is attempting to secure funding for next season and beyond, and his job is getting increasingly difficult. LIV has until September 1 to find new investment, and the clock is ticking.
Their biggest star, Bryson DeChambeau, is out of contract at the end of the season, so they can’t rely on his services in 2027. And they might have infuriated their second-biggest name, Jon Rahm, by cancelling this team event.

Jon Rahm said team golf was ‘key’ for him joining LIV Golf
Rahm, unlike DeChambeau, is contracted to LIV for multiple seasons to come. He admitted when the Saudis pulled funding that he couldn’t find an obvious way out of the deal.
But while he may be trapped on the tour, LIV would do well to keep one of their biggest stars happy. And by canceling the team finale, they’re removing an aspect of the league that Rahm said was the “key” to him joining in the first place.
Rahm told Fox News in 2023, “The team aspect of things is absolutely key. Having that opportunity brought a lot of those feelings back. I’m looking forward to building a team of four strong players.”
This is something DeChambeau also cited as one of the major selling points of LIV Golf, so if both players are being totally honest about their love for team golf, neither can be happy about this latest news.
To make matters worse, the purse for this event was $40 million, money that these players will no longer have the opportunity to win. The impact this could have on the morale of the entire cast could be fatal for LIV.
