The Bills addressed the loss publicly on their X account on Saturday, expressing their support for Oliver and his family.
“On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son,” Bills general manager Brandon Beane said. “It’s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss.”
The Harris County Sheriff’s Department had reported the drowning of a child in Houston on Facebook that evening without revealing the toddler’s identity. The child was taken to a hospital at around 7:18 p.m., where he was pronounced dead.
A Sheriff’s Department official told The Associated Press that a report was not immediately available.
Oliver was present at training camp last month and appeared in the Bills’ 29-14 win over the Carolina Panthers. However, he was unavailable for selection in the team’s subsequent activity while dealing with a minor injury.
