Mykhailo Mudryk could make his long-awaited return to action when Chelsea face Juventus in a pre-season friendly in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
The Ukraine international has been included in Xabi Alonso’s squad after being cleared to resume his career last week following the resolution of his anti-doping case with the Football Association .
Speaking ahead of the match, Alonso confirmed the 25-year-old is available for selection, although he suggested a full 90 minutes would come too soon.
“Yes, he could play. Maybe 90 minutes is too early, but he can be selected,” Alonso said.
“He trained yesterday, came directly from the airport to the hotel. Yesterday was more about the feelings, more about the emotions, to be back with the players and to assess the fitness level.”
Mudryk could make Chelsea return against Juventus
Mudryk has not featured in a competitive match since November 2024 and only rejoined Chelsea’s pre-season tour in Hong Kong earlier this week.
He trained with his team-mates for the first time on Monday before taking part in Tuesday’s open training session at Kai Tak Stadium, where he received a warm reception from supporters.
Despite growing interest from other clubs, Alonso insisted no decision has been made over the winger’s future.
“No decision has been made. Everything has happened so quick, so the main thing is thinking about the person, to feel that he was back in the group dynamic, part of a team, and we need to assess.
“But for sure, he’s a special player. It’s a special case with him, so we need to be sensitive.”
Chelsea are expected to assess Mudryk over the coming weeks before deciding whether he remains part of Alonso’s plans or pursues regular football elsewhere before the transfer window closes.
