The New York Mets are having a nightmare 2026 season, as many of their best players have gotten hurt, with Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor, along with Francisco Alvarez, Luis Robert Jr., and Jorge Polanco, all missing significant time.
While Nolan McLean has been good this season, overall, the Mets are a disaster. Now, the Mets are likely to be trade deadline sellers. The only question left is how far the Mets go.
Jim Bowden of The Athletic is predicting that the Mets are MLB's "most likely" team to conduct a fire sale this summer and tear this team down to the studs.
Mets predicted to conduct fire sale at MLB trade deadline
"I will go with the New York Mets as the team most likely to do the most selling at the trade deadline," Bowden writes.
This prediction from Bowden should not come as a massive surprise. The 45-62 Mets have one of the worst records in baseball, ahead of just the Colorado Rockies , Athletics , and Los Angeles Angels in all of MLB.
But, unlike those teams, the Mets actually have a lot of intriguing trade targets this summer who could actually be traded. The Rockies, A's, and Angels might not be as big of sellers this summer, as the bulk of their valuable assets are controllable starters.

The Mets, on the other hand, have a lot of players, controllable or not, that could garner significant interest this summer.
Francisco Alvarez, Luis Torrens, Mark Vientos, Brett Baty, Jorge Polanco, Marcus Semien, Bo Bichette, Tyrone Taylor, Jared Young, Luis Robert Jr., and maybe even Francisco Lindor could all be feasible trade options for teams this summer.
In the pitching staff, Freddy Peralta, Clay Holmes, Sean Manaea, Devin Williams, Luke Weaver, A.J. Minter, Brooks Raley, Huascar Brazoban, and Kodai Senga are all potential trade options for the Mets.
It would not be a surprise at all if the Mets wound up trading away double-digit players this year at the deadline, as David Stearns and company surely will listen to just about everyone other than Soto, A.J. Ewing, Carson Benge, and McLean.
