The Kansas City Royals are obvious sellers ahead of next week's trade deadline.
Impending free agents should be on the move, such as outfielder Lane Thomas . He could be a good fit for clubs in need of a right-handed hitter with pop.
Otherwise, the Royals have a pair of All-Star pitchers who could net them nice return packages for their farm system.
On Monday, The Athletic's Andy McCullough predicted that the Royals will trade right-handers Michael Wacha and Seth Lugo.
"When Kansas City had a chance to move Lugo at last year’s deadline, the team opted to extend him through 2027. But the past two seasons have been a bust for the franchise, and they need to restock the farm system," McCullough wrote.
Both Wacha and Lugo are reliable veterans, but Kansas City should look to maximize their values as soon as possible.
Neither starter is getting any younger.

"Lugo is 36, and Wacha just turned 35. The team should be aggressive in trying to deal them," McCullough added.
If the Royals decide to hold on to both veterans, it would save them time from looking for their replacements during the offseason. They make their starts every fifth day and post solid numbers year after year.
But if Kansas City has a repeat of this season in 2027, holding on to Wacha and Lugo would become a huge mistake.
