Smith joined Ohio State as the nation's No. 1 overall recruit in the 2024 class. He immediately put up record-breaking numbers in his freshman campaign, leading the Big Ten in both receiving yards (1,315) and receiving touchdowns (17) as he helped the Buckeyes secure a national championship title in 2024.
Last year, Smith once again led the conference in receiving with 87 grabs for 1,243 yards.
During Big Ten Media Days on Wednesday, Smith revealed that he had a different "dream school" before ultimately committing to play for Ohio State.
"Growing up my dream school was Alabama when Nick Saban was there. But they wasn’t recruiting me," Smith said, via On3.
Saban retired after the conclusion of the 2023 season, ending his coaching career just before the beginning of Smith's collegiate career.
Smith received an offer from Alabama in February of 2022, according to 247Sports. However, he never made any official visits to Tuscaloosa. The Opa Locka, Florida native ultimately chose Ohio State over Georgia, Florida, Miami and Florida State.
Smith is entering his third season as one of the brightest stars in college football. Ohio State will begin its 2026 schedule with a matchup against Ball State on Sept. 5.
