Oregon's Dan Lanning Gives Thoughts on Other Big Ten Teams

Big Ten Media Days is a media gauntlet for college football coaches, but amid the press run, some of the biggest names in the sport can get put in some fairly unique situations.
That was the case when Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning joined the "Cover 3 Podcast" and was asked to offer one-word answers when presented with the logos of several of his conference rivals.
First, Lanning was presented with the logo of Oregon's rival, Washington, featuring the classic W in purple and gold.
"Hate," he said, apparently half joking. "It's funny, I respect this team, but we want to beat them. We want to beat the dog out of them every time we get to play them, and they're a really, really tough opponent. Coach Fish does a great job, but yeah, you've got to say hate."
Lanning was then presented with an IU in cream and crimson for Indiana, helmed by Curt Cignetti.
"Champs. Champs. They won it," Lanning said. "Unbelievable job by Coach Cig and his group. Obviously, we got to be on the brunt end of that last year, but they won it all, and they were a really good team last year."
Several other teams, though, brought to mind iconic settings and traditions more than gameplay.
For the Iowa Hawkeyes, for instance, Lanning brought up a recent tradition involving the nearby University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital, when fans, players and coaches all turn to wave at the kids in unison.
"Children's hospital. I know that's two words, but that experience — we got to play there last year, legend in Coach [Kirk] Ferentz and the job they do, but getting to be a part of that moment is as cool as it gets in college football."
For the Michigan Wolverines, it was all about their stadium.
"Big house, I guess? Big house, the first thought," he said. "I''m excited to see what [new coach] Kyle [Whittingham] does there. He's obviously an unbelievable coach. That was one of the venues when we came to the Big Ten, that I'm like 'OK, I want to see this.'"
For the UCLA Bruins, though, he didn't have much to say beyond the team's location in Los Angeles.
