See the full story · 1 sourcesLa Familia will take the floor one more time in The Basketball Tournament with hopes of claiming the $2 million prize on their home court at Memorial Coliseum in front of Kentucky faithful.
The Wildcats' alumni squad will face Davis Steel , a collection of former college basketball players from schools across the country, which came out of the "non-alumni" side of the bracket. Davis Steel competed in previous years as Eberlein Drive and eliminated La Familia in the round of 16 last summer.
"To be able to win this — like, the money is cool, but to be able to do this for the school, I think is dope, because it just shows, like, 'Hey, even though (these) guys aren't in the NBA, they still are really good, and they're able to compete,'" former Kentucky guard Archie Goodwin said. "That's kind of my mindset going in: I wanted to show that we still have that caliber — whether it's NBA or not — with our group, and I think we're doing a good job of that.
"So hopefully, we can continue to do that and win one more."
La Familia kicked off the tournament by defeating The Ville, Louisville's alumni team , in a best-of-three series after a pair of wins at Memorial Coliseum. The former Wildcats then defeated Boeheim's Army, Syracuse's team , 70-66 in the quarterfinals, and took down JHX Hoops, Kansas's squad , 78-65 in the semifinals.
The TBT Championship game is set for a 1 p.m. tipoff in Lexington today.
