Head coach Shane Beamer is on the hot seat. He's 33-30 during his first five seasons with the program and just 16-24 in SEC play. Beamer's quarterback, LaNorris Sellers, could be the key to the Gamecocks making a run in the SEC and becoming a College Football Playoff contender.
Per 247Sports, Sellers was a three-star quarterback in the 2023 class. His draft stock rose in 2024 when he threw for 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions while rushing for 674 yards and seven touchdowns.

Per Jordan Reid of ESPN, NFL teams are having a hard time evaluating Sellers for the 2027 draft. Some NFL scouts think he could be a first-round pick, while others think he could fall around the fifth round.
"Like many top Gamecocks prospects, quarterback LaNorris Sellers returned to school after a rough 2025 season," Reid wrote . "He entered last season with first-round hype but finished with 2,437 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has every trait imaginable but has yet to put it all together.
"There's no in-between when discussing Sellers with scouts -- either they are really high or really low on him. There are evaluators who still have him in Round 1 conversations, while others have given him grades as low as mid-Day 3."
What people around the NFL do think is that Sellers has a lot of untapped potential. The six-foot-three, 238-pound quarterback has the frame to be successful at the next level. His mobility can shine, but he regressed as a runner in 2025, rushing for 270 yards and five touchdowns. His average per rush dropped from 4.1 yards in 2024 to 1.8 yards in 2025.
If Sellers has a big season, he could become a first-round pick in a talented quarterback class. With that being said, he appears to be a developmental prospect for the league.
