Highlights:
Jacob Rodriguez excelling at creating takeaways
∙ Hafley said rookie LB Jacob Rodriguez "has a really good feel" for punching the ball out.
Hafley pointed out a play in which Rodriguez took a swipe at a ball carried by De'Von Achane. Hafley said he's not sure if anyone could have held onto the ball after such a punch-out.
∙ On rookie Kadyn Proctor's miss vs. Zach Sieler on the final play of Friday's workout:
"It's a good learning lesson in those situations, you've got to recognize the 'game,' " Hafley said.
∙ On having fans at practice for the first time Sunday: "I think it's great for our players. I think it's good to get them in an environment where people are watching. I think it's good for the young players and I think it's good for the city."
As Hafley spoke, there was a long line of cars waiting to enter the parking lot for practice.
∙ On DL Zeek Biggers: He's got good size and is really athletic for his size. Biggers is 6-6 and 319 pounds.
Jeff Hafley trying not to favor defense
∙ Hafley joked how he's conscious about not favoring the defense vs. the offense in practice and about being even-keeled now that he's a head coach again. Hafley, of course, has a defensive background but he makes sure after, say, an interception, to talk to the quarterback rather than simply celebrate the takeaway with the defense.
∙ The Dolphins will practice in pads Monday. Hafley said it's a better indication of where the run game is.
∙ On the defense's success with takeaways: Hafley said there is an emphasis on them in camp.
∙ On RB Ollie Gordon's role with De'Von Achane and Jaylen Wright also in the RB room: "I want Ollie to compete, to be an every-down back. And I think Ollie's capable of doing it."
Halfey doesn't want to hear any more about Jonah Savaiinaea's rookie year
∙ On OL Jonah Savaiinaea: "Jonah has obviously taken a lot of criticism. It's hard to play O-line in Year 1. He had his ups and downs last year, because he's a rookie." Adds, "All I know is this: He has been a pleasant surprise to me these first three days. All I want him to do is believe in himself and continue to progress. I don't want to hear anymore about Jonah last year, because it's over."
