Texas A&M star QB named to the Manning Award Preseason Watch List
Texas A&M's 2026 season opener vs. Missouri State is less than two weeks away, and after 14 preseason practices, including Saturday's scrimmage, serving as the final live practice where the media was allowed to attend, and from our vantage point, redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed , who is entering his second full starting season, looked stellar for the first half of Saturday's practice, before throwing two late interceptions.
After throwing for a career-high 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions last season, Reed's dual-threat skill set must be utilized more this season, and from what we've heard thus far, new OC Holmon Wiggins is set to do just that and use more 11-personnel looks given the talent and depth at wide receiver. This summer, Reed's work with Wiggins, QB coach Joey Lynch, and private quarterbacks coach Jeff Christensen seems to have paid off based on what we've witnessed this month.
So far, Reed has earned several preseason accolades, including the Maxwell, Walter Camp, and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Awards, and as of Monday, the Tennessee native was added to the Manning Award Watch List, created by the prestigious Manning family and now led by Texas QB Arch Manning.
On paper, Marcel Reed is one of the more polarizing quarterbacks in the SEC due to his up-and-down play, which was on display throughout the 2025 season, but important to note that he is among eight returning FBS quarterbacks to amass 5,000+ career passing yards and 1,000+ rushing yards, which is extremely impressive and provides Holmon Wiggins plenty to work with this fall.
