Powell (12-2) was set for a light heavyweight bout against Dovlet Yagshimuradov (26-8-1) on the main card of the event taking place Friday at UBS Arena in Belmont, N.Y. Wednesday, Powell announced the fight was pulled from the card. Luckily, he will get to keep the same matchup and compete just a week later.
"It's one of those ones that's out of my control," Powell said in a YouTube video . "It's annoying, but we've just got to keep moving. Got an issue with the athletic state commission here in New York. They won't allow me to fight because of a previous surgery I had. I'm completely fine. I've fought after I had the surgery. There's no issues with me, but it's just because of the surgery I've had, here, they won't allow me to fight.
"But the good news is, we are fighting next week in Charlotte. Same opponent, same fight, nothing changes – just a different location. So, I'm gonna see you guys next week."
PFL Charlotte takes place Friday, Aug. 7, at Bojangles Coliseum, and features a middleweight matchup between Bryan Battle and Dalton Rosta.
