Rice University police looking for missing Genuine Cup athlete
Concern surrounds the start of an athletic tournament in Houston beginning Monday, with one participant now missing as of midnight on Sunday, according to local authorities.
Rice University police issued a "Be On the Lookout" alert Monday morning for Rabe'e Ata Juma'a Alqaq, a Jordanian national in Houston, before the start of the Genuine Cup, a soccer tournament for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The tournament will be held on the practice soccer fields at Rice's campus beginning Monday and ending Saturday, with the tournament featuring athletes from 51 different countries.
Alqaq was last seen around midnight Sunday into Monday, per KHOU 11 in Houston. He reportedly told coaches and teammates he was going for a walk on Rice's campus, but he did not return and was reported missing after breakfast Monday morning. Alaqq does not speak English and was reportedly wearing a light-blue T-shirt and black pants.
Any individual who spotted Alaqq or has information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Rice Police at 713-348-6000.

The inaugural Genuine Cup was held in Houston in 2024. It featured 12 international and domestic club-affiliated teams, then expanded in 2025 and 2026 to now feature more than 1,000 athletes worldwide. The event aims to provide visibility and long-term support networks for neurodiverse young adults and athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
