SANTA CLARA, CA ― The San Francisco 49ers were still a little banged up Tuesday as the team wrapped up its last practice before the final preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, Aug. 27.
Multiple players are still battling injuries and others are recovering as the Niners continue to identify which of their guys will be ready to go when the regular season begins with their international game against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia, on Sept. 10.
In three weeks, the 49ers' season officially begins. Although some key players remain out, here's an update on how others are progressing:
George Kittle activated, off PUP list
San Francisco received some good news as veteran tight end George Kittle was upgraded and officially activated from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Kittle was recently reported "ahead of schedule" in his return to the team as he rehabs a torn Achilles he suffered in an NFC wild card-round win against the Philadelphia Eagles .
"We've just been having to go with non-competitive periods, so that's the first four periods, routes on air, things like that. Just working with the quarterbacks, working with O-line," 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said about Kittle after their Aug. 25 practice. "Hoping next week when we get those three practices after the mandatory three days off."
There's a chance that Kittle will suit up in their Week 1 matchup versus the Rams.
Mike Evans has tightness in groin
The 49ers picked up veteran wide receiver Mike Evans in the offseason and he's been anticipating playing, but minor tweaks and injuries have set back his debut.
Evans did not participate in practice on Tuesday as he continues to deal with tightness in his groin, Shanahan told USA TODAY Sports.
Evans was throwing and catching the ball on the sidelines with teammates.
"His groin is tight," Shanahan said. "Hoping to get him back next week, also."
Nick Bosa is 'doing good'
A Nick Bosa sighting is on the way.
The five-time Pro Bowler is working his way back from an ACL injury he suffered in the 2025 season. Shanahan told reporters that he hopes Bosa can practice next week.
"He's doing good," Shanahan told reporters. "Hoping that he can get into practice next week and we'll see how those three days go after the mandatory three days out."
Christian Kirk could be placed on injured reserve
San Francisco has taken another hit at wideout as it has been without receiver Christian Kirk. He signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the 49ers but has been limited with a calf injury.
Shanahan told reporters that "it's possible" that Kirk could end up on injured reserve.
"We got a number of guys like that, so we gotta just see how that pans out here over the next few days," Shanahan said.
Additional injury notes
Kurtis Rourke, quarterback, suffered three broken ribs.
Rookie edge rusher Romello Height has an ankle injury.
Defensive lineman Mykel Williams and running back Isaac Guerendo remain on the PUP list
Running back Christian McCaffrey looked healthy and was a participant during the Aug. 25 practice.
