The publisher has launched a series-wide anniversary promotion featuring discounts of up to 95% on Ghost Recon games across Ubisoft Connect, Steam, PlayStation and Xbox, alongside free play periods for some of its newer entries.
As part of the celebration, PC players can claim Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier for free on Ubisoft Connect until August 13. Unlike the free weekends for Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint , which run until August 10, anyone who claims Future Soldier during the promotion will be able to keep it permanently.
Originally released for Xbox 360 and PS3 in May 2012 before arriving on PC the following month, Future Soldier took the tactical shooter series into a near-future setting, equipping players with advanced military technology including optical camouflage, reconnaissance drones and the signature Sync Shot mechanic. The campaign spans Bolivia, Zambia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia and Norway, blending stealth-focused encounters with more cinematic third-person action.
In Polygon's 2012 review , we praised Ghost Recon: Future Soldier for marrying tactical stealth with satisfying third-person gunplay and smart squad mechanics, although we felt its military thriller story was largely forgettable. The game received generally positive reviews across the board at launch, earning a Metacritic score of 79 .
The anniversary celebrations also brought the first official confirmation that a new Ghost Recon game is in development . During the anniversary stream, live producer Irina-Gabriela Popa said Ubisoft has spent "the past few years" building "the next chapter of Ghost Recon," describing it as "a fun, fresh experience" that remains true to the series' tactical action, large-scale operations and military storytelling.
Ubisoft also launched the Ghost Recon Insider Program, allowing players to register for future closed tests. While the publisher didn't share a title, trailer or release window, previous reports have claimed the project, codenamed Project OVR, will move away from the open-world looter-shooter elements of recent entries in favor of a more grounded tactical military experience.
A new game will be the first brand-new Ghost Recon title since Breakpoint launched in 2019 and would end the longest gap between mainline Ghost Recon games in the series' 25-year history.
