Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese has already solidified herself as one of the greatest rebounders in the history of the WNBA, and now she has a record to help prove it.
During Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks, Reese pulled down a WNBA record 26 rebounds.
It was the most dominant performance on the glass that the league has ever seen, and it’s drawn some strong reactions from the sports world.
Reese Pulls in 26 Boards
In a 78-71 win over the Los Angeles Sparks, Reese was absolutely dominant on the boards, pulling in 26 rebounds.
While Reese has often been criticized for propping up rebounding stats with her “me-bounds,” where she rebounds her own misses, that was not the case during her record-breaking performance on Monday, as 18 of those 26 rebounds were defensive rebounds – another WNBA record.
This record-breaking performance continues a streak of dominance for Reese.
On Thursday night, Reese nearly had a triple-double in a 124-88 win over the Los Angeles Sparks with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists, going a perfect 9-for-9 from the field.
Reese followed that up with an even more dominant performance on Saturday night as she had a career-high 31 points with 14 rebounds to help lead her team to a 99-89 victory over the Phoenix Mercury.
On Monday, she capped off the road trip with a WNBA record.
‘The Pistol Pete of Rebounds’
Needless to say, Reese’s dominance led to a lot of reactions from the sports world.
“ Angel Reese had 26 rebounds in a 40 minute game. I know rebounds aren’t the sexiest stat in the world. But she’s like the Pistol Pete of Rebounds,” wrote Robert Littal of BSO.
“ Angel Reese is the best rebounder in the world right now… and it’s not even remotely close,” wrote Sam Block of ESPN.
“ Angel Reese had 26 rebounds against the Sparks. Historic. The Sparks had 32 rebounds as a team. Angel Reese had 26. The Sparks had 7 offensive rebounds as a team, Angel Reese had 8,” wrote Steve Jones of Yahoo Sports.
“Salute!” wrote Marc Lamont Hill of BET News.
“Angel Reese might already be the best rebounder in WNBA history. Will finish her career miles ahead when they look at the numbers. Most ever in a game tonight with 26,” wrote Terrance of the Mallory Bros Podcast.
“ Angel Reese is THE greatest rebounder in WNBA history! 26 boards after scoring 31 the previous game. No player is perfect, but Angel is special! Refreshing for the WNBA dialogue to be about the accomplisments of the players on the floor, not the circus of Enes Kanter OFF it!” wrote David Shephard of SiriusXM NBA Radio.
We’ll have to see how Reese continues to build on this performance.
