UFC Featherweight Pondering Retirement After Medical Emergency

UFC featherweight Danny Silva, who most recently finished highly-touted, formerly-unbeaten Dana White Contender Series prospect Kurtis Campbell back in March, revealed on his Instagram that he suffered a life threatening medical emergency.
On Aug. 3 Silva took to social media to tell his followers that he suffered a pulmonary embolism - a blood clot in the lungs - amongst other blood clots around the body.
Thankfully, Silva survived; according to him, potentially due to the fact he was in such good physical condition.
"I got home, and there was swelling on the left side of my neck and pec. A good doctor friend of mine recommended I go to the ER to make sure I wasn’t having a heart attack." Silva wrote.
"After 9 hours in the ER, doing EKGs and CT scans, they came back with some bad news. I had multiple blood clots. They found a massive thrombosis in a vein in my neck, and part of the clot had broken off and traveled to my lung, causing a pulmonary embolism. This news has changed my life. Spending 3 nights in the hospital was awful."
Consequently, it appears that the 29 year old is at the very least mulling retirement; he started his post with the words, "Could this have been my last dance?", before answering his own question with, "I don't know."
Although Silva did vow later on in his caption that he will not give up, sometimes health has to come first.
The Californian is one of the more underrated unranked prospects in the 145 lbs. division – if he decides to continue fighting – and has only two professional losses to his name, one of which came at the hands of current top-10 fighter and arguably featherweights brightest prospect, Kevin Vallejos, back in August 2025.
