Tennessee football adds game vs Central Michigan to 2028 schedule
Tennessee football has added a nonconference game against Central Michigan to its 2028 schedule, a UT spokesperson confirmed to Knox News on July 28.
The Vols will host Central Michigan at Neyland Stadium on Sept. 9, 2028. According to a report from FBSSchedules.com, Tennessee will pay Central Michigan a $1.3 million guarantee for the game.
It will be the first-ever meeting between Tennessee and Central Michigan. Tennessee has never lost to a team currently in the MAC and Central Michigan has never defeated an SEC opponent in 11 tries.
This is the second nonconference matchup added to the Vols’ 2028 schedule. A game against West Virginia on Sept. 2, 2028 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, was announced in 2021.
Tennessee’s home SEC games in 2028 will be Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, South Carolina and Texas A&M. It will play Auburn, LSU, Texas and Vanderbilt on the road that year.
This season’s nonconference games for the Vols are home against Furman (Sept. 5, 3:30 p.m. ET), at Georgia Tech (Sept. 12, 7 p.m.) and back home against Kennesaw State (Sept. 19, 7:45 p.m.).
Their nonconference opponents for 2027 season are Tennessee State, Georgia Tech and Western Michigan, and they have a home-and-home scheduled with Washington with games in 2029 and 2030.
