You Can Thank Lin Shaye for ‘Insidious: Out of the Further

As the psychic Elise Rainier, Lin Shaye has long served as the emotional heart of the Insidious franchise, guiding its various characters through emotional and spiritual turmoil. Apparently, it's a role she played in real life, too, when the franchise's future was in jeopardy.

According to Variety , at some point during the development of Insidious: Out of the Further , the series' sixth and most recent installment , Sony canceled the film and pulled it from the release schedule. Shaye, however, had a pretty succinct response to that news: "Fuck this."

Shaye refused to take the film's cancelation lying down. She wrote a letter to Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group CEO Tom Rothman and asked him to reverse the decision—and it worked. The movie got made, and it premiered in theaters last weekend.
