NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Bears are practicing with the Titans on Thursday morning at Vanderbilt Health Football Center, their second joint practice of training camp. The teams will play their final preseason game against each other Saturday at Nissan Stadium.
Bears coach Ben Johnson spoke with reporters before practice and had some updates:
- Right tackle Darnell Wright hurt his right elbow in practice Tuesday, but the Bears were fortunate to avoid any significant injury. "It was an [aggravation] of some things that went on last year," Johnson said. "He'll be an active participant today." Wright played through a torn UCL in that elbow most of last season.
- Defensive tackle Gervon Dexter, who has been at the center of trade speculation this week, did not travel with the team to Nashville. Johnson said he has a hamstring injury.
- Defensive end Austin Booker is "banged up" with a groin injury and Johnson said he's week-to-week.
- Recently added defensive end Marcus Davenport has yet to practice, but isn't injured. Johnson said the team is "being smart with him [because] he's a player that's missed a lot of time over the last three years." He's been working on the side with the strength and conditioning staff.
- Rookie cornerback Malik Muhammad currently is in line to start at nickel unless Kyler Gordon returns for the opener, and Johnson feels good about that position even as Muhammad goes through "bumps in the road." He said the Bears are "really pleased with the path that he's on right now."
