Brian Flores' scheme calls for a lot of pressure to come down on opposing quarterbacks, both up the middle and off the edges. The team has some established pass rushers in place, such as Dallas Turner and Andrew Van Ginkel, but that pivotal third spot remains open.
The team had it before they traded away Jonathan Greenard during the NFL Draft. Now, they are looking for someone to replace him, or at least be a third option behind Turner and Van Ginkel. As Alec Lewis of The Athletic writes, the Vikings have some options, but whether someone can rise to the occasion remains to be seen.
Lewis writes, "Bo Richter, Chaz Chambliss and Tyler Batty are all undrafted players trying to carve out bigger roles. Even though the Vikings have high hopes for Turner, and their defense doesn’t hinge on one pass rusher taking over games, acquiring a more veteran pass-rushing replacement still makes sense."
As Lewis points out at the end, acquiring a pass rusher could be the solution. Towards the end of camp, trades are common as teams may want to make a jump on a player versus playing the waiver game. Based on who they have, there could be a move to make down the stretch before the season.
