Bayern Munich Frauen got off to a winning start in preseason with a 4-1 win over Japanese club RB Omiya Ardija.
The reigning double winners embarked on a summer tour to the Land of the Rising Sun. The game was played in Saitama, just about half an hour (give or take) away from the capital of Tokyo, and as this writer remembers he once mentioned, home to the largest railway museum in the country.
Bayern got off to a slightly sluggish start, perhaps naturally, given the lofty temperatures of 32 odd degrees Celsius. However, they did not take too long to get into their grove. Following a corner from Klara Bühl, Pernille Harder took advantage of a goalmouth struggle and opened the scoring with just 15 minutes gone.
Jovana Damnjanović really should have done better with a chance she got soon after, but she did get her goal right before halftime after receiving a pass from Bühl.
The second half was not much different, with Bayern having more control, but Omiya still looking for any lapses. Katharina Naschenweng put Bayern another goal up on 57 minutes with a powerful left-footed drive after a strong run.
Omiya did get a goal out of their efforts, though. Minami Munakata hit the target with a well taken header that glanced off the post and in. Regardless, the result was barely in doubt, and Bayern put the icing on the cake with a stoppage time penalty, which Alara converted.
Local hero Momoko Tanikawa was received warmly by her compatriots, despite not getting on the scoresheet. Bayern will fly back to Munich in the coming days, where they have two more preseason friendlies scheduled against FC Nürnberg and Paris FC.
