SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A piece of Missouri State Women's Soccer history was just made.
The Bears took down in-state rival Missouri, one-nothing, for their first win over the Tigers since 1996. And this one came down to the final minutes.
With the game still scoreless late in the second half, senior forward Lillie Rasmussen delivered the moment Bears fans had been waiting nearly three decades for, scoring in the 85th minute to put Missouri State ahead.
Missouri had its chances, outshooting the Bears nine-to-five and hitting the post multiple times.
But Missouri State's defense held strong, and the Bears protected the lead to the final whistle.
It's just the second win all-time for Missouri State against Mizzou, and the first since that two-nothing victory in Columbia in 1996.
After opening the season against three straight Power Four opponents, the Bears now have a win over the SEC's Tigers to show for it.
