While this reporter was in Boston (watching a few Red Sox games), the newest prized possession of the Red Sox ’ organization was in Worcester .
Adley Rutschman.
The 28-year-old catcher, acquired from the Baltimore Orioles for a handful of top Red Sox prospects, came into Polar Park like a knife in butter this past weekend — for a rehab assignment with the Triple-A WooSox — and then slipped out like a thief in the night.
Rutschman played in two games (one as catcher and one as designated hitter), made seven plate appearances (1 for 5 with 2 RBI, 2 runs scored and 2 walks), threw out one base runner and held one media scrum.

— Tommy Cassell (@tommycassell44) August 9, 2026 Now, Rutschman is in Toronto with the big-league club (and is most likely getting added to the Red Sox’ active roster this week), while the WooSox begin a six-game homestand back at Polar Park on Tuesday.
So, while Rutschman's stay in the Canal District was short lived, there still is plenty of intrigue when it comes to the Triple-A club at the moment — like outfielder Kristian Campbell continues his sweltering summer. In his last 29 games, Campbell slashed 33 for 95 (.347) with 7 doubles, 3 HR, 18 RBIs, 23 runs and 22 walks.
On Sunday, Franklin Arias saw his nine-game hit streak come to an end with a 0 for 5 performance. Still, the Red Sox’ top prospect is hitting .288 with 3 HR, 14 RBIs and a .875 OPS since being called up to Triple A on July 24.
Oh, and the WooSox have some new pitchers — and some familiar faces.
Starting pitchers John Holobetz, Blake Wehunt and Gage Ziehl have all been recently promoted from Double-A Portland and are now anchoring a WooSox rotation that’s making a playoff push. The trio of righty arms is teaming up with position players like Tsung-Che Cheng, Nate Eaton, Mickey Gasper and Romy Gonzalez, who have all played in Boston this season.
The WooSox currently find themselves 0.5 games back of Scranton/WB for the top spot in the International League East second-half standings. Whoever wins the second half would play Rochester in a best-of-three championship series with the winner advancing to face the Pacific Coast League champion in a single-game championship.
So, with the Buffalo Bisons in town (along with Leominster local Pat Gallagher pitching for them), here is the upcoming schedule and list of promotions at Polar Park:
Tuesday (6:45 p.m.): Taco & Tequila Tuesday, presented by Teremana; Tail Waggin’ Tuesday (fans can bring their dogs); AARP Ticket Tuesday; Prostate Cancer Awareness Night; Country Bank WooStars.
Wednesday (12:05 p.m.): AbbVie STEM Day; First Responder Wednesday, presented by National Grid, when first responders receive four free general admission tickets; Postgame Player Meet & Greet in DCU Club, presented by DCU.
Thursday (6:45 p.m.): Deuces Wild every Thursday Summer evening home game when fans can purchase $2 hot dogs (Coney Island and Hebrew Nationals), $2 12-ounce drafts of Coors Light and Masshole Light Lager, and $2 bottles of Polar water (the beverage deals run for seven days); Eye Health Awareness Night; Grafton Town Takeover and Gardner Town Takeover, both presented by Rodenhiser.
Friday (6:45 p.m.): UniBank Fireworks to Karaoke Hits (fans are encouraged to sing along); Los Wepas de Worcester, presented by Modelo, to celebrate Puerto Rico in honor of Roberto Clemente’s birthday on Aug. 18.
Saturday (4:05 p.m.): Larry Lucchino Writers Series featuring Boston media icon Steve Buckley, currently of The Athletic, in the DCU Club from 12:30– 2 p.m.; Korean Heritage Day; Sunset Catch on the Field (postgame, weather permitting).
Sunday (1:05 p.m.): Leicester Town Takeover; Hanover Insurance Strikeout Hunger Day; Kids (of all ages) Run the Bases postgame.
