Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing has withdrawn its riders from consideration as part of the 2026 Motocross of Nations, in Ernée, France, Team USA, citing "the demanding schedule of the SMX series, and ... associated travel and support costs," as a contributing factor in the decision.
"After numerous discussions between the team principals and Yamaha management, both Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing and Yamaha Motor USA have collectively made the difficult decision to step back from this year’s MXoN competition,” said Jim Roach, Yamaha Racing Manager in a news release.
This effectively removes 450 rookie Haiden Deegan from the list of potential riders, as well as Justin Cooper, who competed for Team USA in 2025 when the MXoN was held at Ironman Raceway. Cooper finished 10th in both of his races as the squad finished second overall to Team Australia.
"We’re choosing to prioritize the health and safety of our riders, which includes affording them, and the entire team, a period of time to recover from the 2026 season. When you factor in the logistical challenges and costs of shipping and converting bikes to FIM spec, the team respectfully wants to stay focused on its continued preparation for the upcoming 2027 SMX season," Roach continued.
Team USA hopes to announce its roster in conjunction with the upcoming Pro Motocross finale at Ironman Raceway.
