It has been nearly a month since Skylar Diggins played a WNBA game for the Chicago Sky .
The jury remains out on whether the seven-time All-Star will ever suit up for the franchise again.
Diggins has not played since July 3; a few days later , it was revealed -- by Diggins -- that the Sky coaching staff had decided to take the star point guard out of the starting lineup to end a bad run of results.
Diggins protested this decision on Instagram and in a press conference before she was ruled out with a knee injury.

As such, the future is uncertain for Diggins in Chicago, where the Sky again sports one of the league's worst records at 9-18.

— Chicago State of Mind Sports (@ChiStateOfMind_) July 27, 2026 USA Today's Mitchell Northam writes that "it's just not working out" in Chicago for Diggins, who signed a two-year contract with the Sky as a free agent in April.
Northam has proposed that the Sky and the Los Angeles Sparks work out a deal that would reunite Diggins with Nneka Ogwumike, after they helped the Seattle Storm reach the playoffs in both 2024 and 2025.
"Can (Diggins) talk the organization into shipping her to Hollywood for a reunion with Nneka Ogwumike?" Northam asks.
The Sparks have little in the way of cap space to absorb Diggins' contract. But it is clear that Diggins and the Sky do not have a long-term future together, while Los Angeles might have a need at guard if it deals Kelsey Plum to another team before the Aug. 2 trade deadline.
A Plum trade would create a lot of cap space for the Sparks, and it would allow them to make a serious push for Diggins, a six-time All-WNBA selection who has plenty of good basketball still to play.
