The Bucs wide receiver depth is worth being excited about in 2026
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost Mike Evans this offseason, but the early returns from training camp suggest they may have enough talent at wide receiver to absorb the loss collectively.
After visiting Buccaneers training camp, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler came away impressed by the overall construction of Tampa Bay's roster, specifically pointing to a receiving corps that he described as "loaded."
Emeka Egbuka sits at the center of that optimism. After producing 938 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie, Fowler noted that the expectation inside the building is for another step forward in Year 2 after he appeared to hit a wall late last season.
Chris Godwin Jr. could provide another boost. Fowler reported that several people within the organization believe the veteran receiver "has his explosion back," an encouraging development after injuries have disrupted his past two seasons.
The depth doesn't stop with those two.
Tampa Bay is expecting a bigger season from Jalen McMillan after a neck injury limited him to four games in 2025. Fowler believes McMillan could produce enough to slightly cut into the numbers of both Egbuka and Godwin.
Then there are the younger options. Third-round rookie Ted Hurst III has already flashed the natural speed necessary to run past NFL cornerbacks. Fowler noted that Tampa Bay has a history of developing receivers and believes Hurst could become dangerous as his route running develops.
Tez Johnson may be buried even further down the depth chart, but Fowler's assessment was simple: "Tez Johnson can really play."
That's what makes Tampa Bay's receiving corps intriguing. There may not be a single player capable of individually replacing what Evans provided for more than a decade, but the Buccaneers have Egbuka, Godwin, McMillan, Hurst, and Johnson competing for opportunities.
For Baker Mayfield and new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, figuring out how to distribute the football among all of them might be one of the better problems to have.
