Manchester United have taken measures in recent years to improve the pathway from the academy to the first team and maintain the club's storied tradition of developing stars of the future.
One such youngster is on the cusp of breaking into Michael Carrick's plans, and the club has not been so enthused by a prospect for some time.
J.J. Gabriel has joined the senior side for training during early preseason and jetted off to Norway for the friendly game with Rosenborg on July 24. He was an unused substitute for the match, but made his friendly debut in the 82nd minute against Atletico Madrid shortly thereafter.
It may not be the last time over the next year that United fans see him in action.

J.J. Gabriel, whose full name is Joseph Junior Andreou Gabriel, is a forward who is part of Man United's youth academy.
The youngster broke a record in April 2025 by becoming the youngest player to appear for the United Under-18s side. He scored twice in a debut appearance against Leeds United in which the Red Devils won 13-1.
Gabriel, who was born in Enfield in north London and has played at youth level for England, has trained with the United senior team in 2026 and joined Carrick's squad for a friendly against Rosenborg on July 24.
