See the full story · 1 sourcesWhile Stephen Curry was hopeful of LeBron James joining the Golden State Warriors this summer, he apparently didn't let that dream scenario trick him into thinking he'd have an easier season.
In comments at Moses Moody's youth camp, via The Athletic's Marcus Thompson , Curry seemed to have accepted the load he'll be carrying in 2026-27 even before James announced Friday he'd be signing with the Philadelphia 76ers .
"That’s why you don’t envision anything until it happens," Curry said. "There’s a lot of moving parts."
With Jimmy Butler rehabbing a torn ACL, Moody working back from a torn patellar and the injury-prone Kristaps Porzingis as maybe the next-best player on the roster, as least until Draymond Green re-signs, Curry knew the situation he was facing without James, and never let his mind wander too far from that reality.
"The through line, which is hard on anybody in this situation, especially with us keeping this thing together, is knowing that when Jimmy got hurt and Moses got hurt, the whole calculus of everything changes," Curry said. "How do you get through their absence and still stay at a certain level? And then how that goes into this year. It’s the same deal. So I’m a realist on that."
Without James, Curry knows the only realistic path for Golden State to improve on last year's 10th place finish is simply for Butler and others to get healthy, as it was before the Warriors had a shot at James: "We don’t live in any alternative universe."
