WNBA Recognizes Caitlin Clark After Achieving Career Milestone

On Tuesday, the WNBA recognized Clark as the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, joining four-time WNBA MVP and three-time champion A'ja Wilson, who was named the Western Conference Player of the Week.
Clark had a stellar week with the Fever, averaging 25.7 points, nine assists, and five rebounds per game. That helped push the Fever up a spot in the WNBA Power Rankings, as they're now fourth among the league's elite squads.
As it stands, the Fever are among the eight teams contending for playoff spots, and at 19-11, they're battling with the Dallas Wings in the fourth and fifth spots in the standings.
To start August, Clark achieved her fourth career triple-double, with 26 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds in her team's win at the Portland Fire. That milestone also helped her tie New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu, who also has four career triple-doubles, the most of any point guard in WNBA history.

It's an impressive feat by Clark in just her third season, especially when one considers that the WNBA began in 1996 and featured some great point guards throughout history. However, it also speaks to changes in how guards play the game and how skilled modern players have become today.
Clark, named an All-Star for the third time in her career, is averaging 21.5 points, eight assists, and four rebounds per game for the Fever this season.
With her latest WNBA Player of the Week Award, she continues her ascension to a spot among the league's top stars. However, it's going to be hard to argue that she should win this season's WNBA MVP Award, despite being in the conversation.
Her own teammate, Kelsey Mitchell, is also in that conversation, averaging 24 points per game, but fewer assists and rebounds. Meanwhile, the Aces' Wilson seems to have a legitimate shot at claiming her fifth MVP when this season ends.
As of this writing, the Las Vegas Aces are among the top-tier teams, with Wilson averaging 26.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. Thanks to her continued excellence on the court, the defending WNBA champions are currently second in the Western Conference Division and in the overall league standings.
