The clean sheet numbers jump out straight away, and the European experience is a big positive for a club that wants players capable of handling pressure.
There is always a natural hesitation when a goalkeeper arrives without Premier League experience, especially given how demanding the role is in England. Even so, Newcastle cannot keep circling the same names forever, and if the recruitment team believe Hornicek has the temperament and technical level to step in, then it is worth trusting that judgement.
The bigger picture is important as well. Eddie Howe still needs help in midfield and attack, so there is a balance to strike with budget and priorities. Spending £30 million on a goalkeeper would be significant, and supporters will want confidence that it does not restrict movement elsewhere in the squad.
