Packers Training Camp Recap: Injury info gets cleared up on Day 1

School is back in session, folks. The Green Bay Packers hit the field for their first training camp practice of 2026 on Wednesday, and you won’t have to be in person to get a look at the green and gold starters this summer. According to general manager Brian Gutekunst, who spoke to the media before practice, the team is planning on playing “a couple series” with starters during the preseason this year.
That might come in handy, considering the Packers seem to be cracking down on video at the practices.

Coming into Wednesday, the Packers had announced that 11 players started the 2026 season on either the physically unable to perform list or non-football injury list. Below are the players:
RB Chris Brooks (NFI)
TE Tucker Kraft (PUP)
TE Luke Musgrave (PUP)
LG Aaron Banks (PUP)
OT Brant Banks (PUP)
DL Javon Hargrave (PUP)
DL Jordon Riley (PUP)
DL Nazir Stackhouse (PUP)
EDGE Micah Parsons (PUP)
CB Kamal Hadden (PUP)
LS Matt Orzech (PUP)
Two of these players immediately practiced on Wednesday: left guard Aaron Banks and defensive lineman Nazir Stackhouse, which removed them from the PUP list. Green Bay’s staff also stated that the issues that defensive linemen Javon Hargrave (knee) and long snapper Matt Orzech (calf) are not long-term issues. For what it’s worth, the emergency long snapper today was center Sean Rhyan, but Gutekunst hinted at adding a long snapper to fill the role while Orzech is out. Keep an eye out for a transaction there.
Tight end Luke Musgrave has a neck injury, and Gutekunst said the team is “working through it to figure out if it’s gonna be long term,” which is probably the worst news out of camp today. Green Bay was already thin at the tight end position and potentially losing a body there won’t help. In other tight end news, tight end Tucker Kraft is expected to return to the field “sooner rather than later.” Based on the Christian Watson timeline, Kraft should be back on the field in the next week or two. Gutekunst also claimed that they expect to get an extension done with Kraft before the season, something that was reported earlier this offseason.
Running back Chris Brooks and offensive tackle Brant Banks, the non-holdover injuries that have yet to be addressed so far in this article, were both listed with hamstring injuries on Wednesday. The only other player who didn’t practice on Day 1 was cornerback Keisean Nixon, who was also listed with a hamstring issue.

Head coach Matt LaFleur stated that “nothing has changed” with Josh Jacobs’ legal matter, as Brown County continues to investigate the running back regarding domestic violence, so it would be “business as usual” for Jacobs on Wednesday. He did indeed practice with the team fully to open up training camp.
Jager Burton said an expletive as he went inside with a trainer earlier and just came back out without a helmet.

Before the Packers could even get into their first team period of camp, they got some bad news on the offensive side of the ball. Rookie offensive lineman Jager Burton, who had been subbing in with the first-team offense as a guard with Aaron Banks out of the lineup in minicamp, left the field with an injury and was shut down for the remainder of the day. There’s no indication of how serious his injury is.
With Aaron Banks and Zach Tom being slowed back into the starting lineup and Burton out, the Packers’ starting offensive line on Wednesday was: Jordan Morgan, Jacob Monk, Sean Rhyan, Anthony Belton and Darian Kinnard (left to right). Otherwise, the first-team offense was chalk across the board.
Don’t expect to hear too much hype about the offense early on in camp. Full pads aren’t even on, and the defense is almost always ahead of the offense. Plus, you’ll be getting less video this year, apparently. With that being said, one interesting note from Wednesday was that quarterback Jordan Love scored a touchdown on a read option play near the goal line, something Green Bay usually saved for Malik Willis in the past.

Andy Herman noted that beyond this list of players above, Lukas Van Ness and Barryn Sorrell got the “starts” on the edge today. With Javon Hargrave, Devonte Wyatt and Nazir Stackhouse coming off injuries, it was Karl Brooks, Chris McClellan and Warren Brinson starting on the defensive line. I wouldn’t make too much about today’s defensive line starters, considering the circumstance, but it will be interesting to monitor who the third starter will be once Hargrave and Wyatt both return to the lineup.
At cornerback, Brandon Cisse and Carrington Valentine got the starting looks at outside cornerback over Benjamin St-Juste, who mostly worked with the second-team defense on Wednesday, with Keisean Nixon out. Again,...
