The San Francisco Giants , on the other hand, will be one of the league's top sellers. They currently have a 46-62 record and are well out of the playoff race.
Because of this, one of the Giants' top trade chips is now being viewed as a potential target for the Rays.
In a recent article for MLB.com , Jared Greenspan named Giants star infielder Luis Arraez as a trade fit for the Rays to consider targeting.
"Meanwhile, the Rays are looking for a bat to complement their “Big Three” of Yandy Diaz, Jonathan Aranda and Junior Caminero, and the keystone has been a weak spot," Greenspan wrote. "Tampa Bay second basemen have combined for a 91 wRC+ . They’re projected to have the 24th-best-rest-of-season production at second base, per FanGraphs. Arraez would certainly change that."
With the Rays needing a boost at the second base position, it would make a lot of sense for them to make a big trade for Arraez. He would make their already-strong roster even better, as he is one of the baseball's top contact hitters.
Arraez's stats from this season show just how talented of a contact hitter he is. In 102 games this season with the Giants, he has four home runs, 43 RBI, and a very impressive .331 batting average. The four-time All-Star has also been batting champion three times during his career, which only adds to his appeal.
It will be interesting to see if the Rays will strike a deal for Arraez. The fit looks very strong on paper, and they are in a position right now to make a big move.
