See the full story · 1 sourcesThe New Orleans Saints could be without one of their top defensive linemen before the 2026 season even gets started.
Former Clemson standout Bryan Bresee is feared to have suffered a torn ACL during training camp, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport. While additional testing is still expected, the injury is believed to be serious enough that Bresee could miss the entire season.
The setback comes at a brutal time for the former first-round pick. Entering his fourth NFL season, Bresee was expected to play a key role on New Orleans’ defense after putting together a productive start to his career. Through 49 games with the Saints, he has recorded 86 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks. New Orleans also holds a $13 million club option for the 2027 season as part of his rookie contract.
Unfortunately, this is not unfamiliar territory for Bresee. During his Clemson career, he suffered a torn ACL against NC State in September 2021, ending that season after just four games. He battled back from that injury and eventually became the No. 29 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Bresee arrived at Clemson as the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit and made an immediate impact. He earned Freshman All-American honors in 2020 and became just the second Tiger to win ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, joining Dexter Lawrence.

— Clemson Wire (@Clemson_Wire) July 29, 2026 Over three seasons with Clemson, Bresee appeared in 26 games, making 21 starts. He finished his college career with 64 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, nine sacks, four pass breakups, one interception, one forced fumble and a safety.
If the initial reports are confirmed, it would be another difficult chapter for Bresee, who has already overcome significant adversity in both college and the NFL. It would also be a major loss for a Saints defense that was counting on him to be one of its anchors in 2026.
