The Los Angeles Rams drafted quarterback Ty Simpson based almost completely on his potential, not solely on what he can already do, so developing his mechanics over the next year was always part of the plan. The fact that training camp can often be so public may not be doing the Rams or Simpson any favors as the team works on fixing those issues.
From some training camp footage, some users on Twitter have taken to scouting what’s working—and not working—for Simpson in his first Rams training camp. Namely, that while the talent is obvious, mechanical issues stemming from his base and his footwork are just as apparent.

Not that we should hand over all credibility to an anonymous account on Twitter named “SCOUTD”, but do you see any truth in this statement from the video above:

The flashes are absolutely there. Now it’s about cleaning up the mechanics and becoming more consistent.“
Nothing said here sounds or looks to be incorrect or unfair.
Simpson, with absolutely zero pressure in his face, does appear to be (for no reason) falling onto his back foot and robbing himself of a solid foundation when he throws this pass.
It’s just one pass. It’s practice. He’s a rookie. Nobody’s saying it matters in the long run.
But nevertheless, any small takeaways we can infer from Ty Simpson’s first training camp are newsworthy and interesting. He’s the biggest investment that the L.A. Rams have made in a quarterback since they traded for Matthew Stafford. He’s the biggest draft pick investment since Jared Goff in 2016. He’s labeled as the future of the franchise.
So while Simpson should not see the field in 2026, emphasis on “should not” instead of “definitely won’t” because nobody can predict when that time will be necessary, anything we see from the quarterback today is worthy of debating prior to tomorrow.
